Gathering the Filipino youth to make a political stand through K-Pop culture

In March 2022, the Philippines underwent one of the most important national elections in recent history. It was a battle for President between Ferdinand Marcos Jr, the son of a dictator, and then-Vice President Leni Robredo.
I was a part of K-Pop Stans 4 Leni, a supergroup of K-Pop fans dedicated to campaigning for Leni Robredo. One of the main projects I handled was Into the New Philippines, a birthday cupsleeve event for Robredo. In K-Pop culture, a cupsleeve event is when fans gather in cafes to celebrate their idols and their accomplishments. This cupsleeve event engaged 31 locations nationwide and over 1,000 attendees.

The event theme was inspired by the Girls Generation song Into the New World. Together with fellow K-Pop stans, we imagined a new Philippines with Robredo at the helm. We used visual cues from the Into the New World music video and album packaging and applied it to the project’s brand.
Every cupsleeve event comes with kit inclusions. For our kit, we decided to have the items double as campaign materials that people can use and distribute to others. Our kit included photo cards with Robredo’s platform, hand fans that showed Robredo’s achievements, and hand banners that people can bring to campaign rallies.
